My first entry for the Design Your Own Lomo LCA+ Competition.

What could be better than combining my love of Design AND Lomography?

Well on Lomography.com they are sponsoring a new competition where you get to design your own Lomo LCA+ camera.

Just thought I’d show my first entry for the contest.

A personification of the emotions felt while using such a camera.

Here are my newly added photo’s!

For those of you who don’t know, Lomography is a community consisting of people who love the creative and experimental nature of analogue photography. The idea of lomography is to just live in the moment without necessarily thinking about things like composition while shooting. Since a majority of lomographers make use of old film cameras, or toy cameras with plastic lenses and no real focus, pictures usually have dark vignetted corners, light leaks, and highly saturated colors, and soft focuses resulting in an amazing vintage lo-fi feel.

Here are the newly added photo’s:

Remember the Ten Golden Rules of Lomography are:
as written on lomography.com/about/the-ten-golden-rules
  1. Take your camera everywhere you go.

  2. Use it any time – day and night.

  3. Lomography is not an interference in your life, but part of it.

  4. Try the shot from the hip.

  5. Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as close as possible.

  6. Don’t think. (William Firebrace)

  7. Be fast.

  8. You don’t have to know beforehand what you captured on film.

  9. Afterwards either.

  10. Don’t worry about any rules.

Thought I’d give some props to a fantastic musician.

And That musician is Lewis Floyd Henry, The One Man Band. Utilizing a guitar and a child’s drum set, his performances seem to serve as a reminder to take life, and ourselves, a little less serious and get back to just enjoying life. Here’s a man that reminds us why we create music, or anything for that matter, in the first place.

So don’t critique, just enjoy.

More music can be found on his myspace page here: http://www.myspace.com/lewisfloydhenry

Lemon Drop Eyes – The Story

I figured a story was in order to explain the Lemon Drop Eye. So without further ado I present-

Lemon Drop Eyes

Once upon a time, there was a brooding man. He spent many years in solitude trying to find many questions and many answers. Trying to avoid being clouded by crawly things like feelings he built up walls around him of enormous proportion to keep the clouds out and the clarity in, or so he believed. Unfortunately he had also blotted out the sun, but this was of no concern to him. At least not at the time… After many years at this he believed he had learned a lot, but he also found that some things just could not be explained.

It was as if there was a key element missing, a foundation, something to give meaning to all things. He soon realized that he should not have so hastily blotted out the sun. He needed its warmth, its nurturing, and most of all he needed it’s love.

Looking around he realized that he had no tools inside his walls to free himself, so he was forced to use a spoon that had been left in a plastic bowl. He slowly began chipping away at the mortar around the first brick he saw, and after many excruciating hours at this he was able to loosen one of the bricks and push it out.

Peering through he frantically searched for the one thing he so hungered for. Looking up, he found the sun, and she was gorgeous. He had to learn her name. Wanting to be heard he called out to her at the top of his lungs, “Please Miss, I must know your name!” When the sun spoke for the first time it was the most beautiful sound he had ever heard. He spent any moment he could speaking to the sun, and missed her greatly when she disappeared to the west over the horizon.

He had to get to her somehow, so it was then he began digging a tunnel.

It seemed like such a terrible process trying to open up and get past the barriers he had created for himself, but by what seemed a miracle, he was finally able to fully behold the sun he so sought after.

Sometimes dark clouds rolled by and turmoil crept in, but would soon dissipate and all seemed right in the world. As the warm light shined upon the young man.

Overtime, the man grew tired of gazing into the sun from afar, and had to get closer. He needed to be with her. His every pore screamed it, and his very being ached to be closer. But the sun said, “You mustn’t get any closer, for my purpose is to shine and provide warmth. If you come any closer you will surely burn up.” The man tried to reason with the sun and pleaded, “why can’t you turn down your heat for me, so I might embrace you?”, but the sun refused. Out of desperation the man fashioned a stairwell out of the remains of his walls, laced with silver and aquamarine. Climbing to the top, the heat began to bear down on him, and the man began to grow weary and broken. Still he pressed on all the while asking, “please won’t you turn down your heat, even for me?”, and still the sun refused. Determined the man climbed to the top of the stairwell and was just moments away from embracing that sweet sun, when the flames finally proved to much and burnt him up.

The young man slowly faded away in a cloud of dust.

All the while the sun shined on.

Lemon Drop Eyes – The Site

So what can you expect from Lemon Drop Eyes, or better yet, what should you prepare yourself for?

Like a meaningful design blog I’ll post some of my works, or talk about projects I’m involved in. I’ll also share some of the cool things I stumble upon in my various searches for inspiration. Every now and then you can probably expect the rantings or ramblings of a madman, maybe a new quote/idea or two to get you thinking.

For example a ramble would go something like this. “I like mac n’ cheese. A Lot. Just now, at 9:26pm, I finished eating an entire box of the stuff by myself. How many of you like to sit down, design stuff, and consume a families worth of mac n’ cheese in one serving?”

An example of something to make you think might be something like, “Reality is perception – not a reflection of truth” via a quote I just stumbled across from my current favorite book “The Art of Looking Sideways“. (Like how I worked one of those “cool things for you to check out kind of things”  for you in there?)
